WWII GERMAN ARTILLERY WARSHIP RECOGNITION CHART CAPTURED IN NORMANDY 1944
This absolutely unique WW II Artillery warship recognition chart was taken from German Headquarters in the Normandy Beaches when the allied troops landed on June 6 1944. It was brought back to England by a British soldier who risked his life for it, found it and treasured it for many years. It shows every warship the British had in 1943 and also allied warships from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Poland, France and many other Countries. The ships are silhouetted &/or named in black on a white background. The Chart measures 33 inches (84cm.) By 24 inches (61 cm.). The Chart has typed on it "Recovered from German HQ, Normandy Beaches after "D" Day, June 6, 1944". IT IS AUTHENTIC. Many of the ships are shown in silhouette so that the German gunners on the Normandy Coast could see which ship they were targeting. As the German navy, army and air force personnel sank ships they would cross the silhouette &/or the name of the ship off this particular chart. The surprising thing is how close we all came to the total annihilation of the British and Allied Fleets. There are over 1,000 ships shown and 314 of them were sunk just in the 14 month period that the chart was used.
